Best POS System in Johor Bahru (2026): A Local POS Consultant's Guide for F&B and Retail

If you are looking for the best POS system in Johor Bahru, the honest answer is that it depends on what you sell. A café in Mount Austin, a kopitiam in Permas Jaya, a restaurant group with outlets in Masai and Skudai, and a hardware shop in Taman Perling all need different things from a till. We are Rockbell, a POS consultant with an office in Taman Perling, JB, and we supply systems for both sides: Popcorn POS for F&B, and two retail brands, Million POS and AutoCount POS, for shops. So instead of pushing one product, this guide helps you work out which kind of system fits your business, what to check before you buy, and what it costs where prices are published.

If you already know you need an F&B system and want the full national comparison, read our Best Cloud POS System for F&B in Malaysia guide. If your outlet is in the Klang Valley, our KL and Klang Valley guide covers that market. This one is for businesses in Johor Bahru and the rest of southern Johor.

The short answer for JB businesses

Start with one question: do you sell food and drinks, or goods off a shelf?

  • F&B (restaurants, cafés, kopitiams, mamak, bubble tea, bakeries, food trucks): you need a system built around orders, tables, the kitchen and fast payment. That is what Popcorn POS is for.
  • Retail (minimarts, hardware, fashion, gift and electronics shops): you need barcodes, stock control and a link to your accounting. That is what Million POS and AutoCount POS are for.
  • Both, or growing into more outlets: you need the POS to link to your accounting, and one supplier who can support every part. That is where a consultant earns its keep.

Here is where we would usually start for common JB business types. Treat it as a starting point for a demo, not a final answer.

What is different about buying a POS in Johor Bahru

Most POS advice is written for Malaysia in general, or for the Klang Valley. Four things are worth thinking about in JB.

Singapore is next door, and soon a five-minute train ride away

Many JB businesses have Singapore customers, Singapore partners or a Singapore outlet. The Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link between Bukit Chagar in JB and Woodlands North in Singapore is designed to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with a train journey of about five minutes (LTA). Its operator now expects passenger service to start in February 2027 (AsiaOne, 2 October 2026). If you expect more cross-border customers, test how fast the till clears a queue, and check that it takes the cards and e-wallets your customers carry.

If you run, or plan to run, outlets on both sides of the Causeway, check that the POS handles both tax systems. Popcorn POS supports Malaysia SST, Singapore GST and Indonesia VAT (see our SST, GST and VAT guide), and Rockbell has offices in both Johor Bahru and Singapore.

"JB" covers a big area

In a POS conversation, JB means far more than the city centre: Permas Jaya, Masai and Pasir Gudang to the east; Skudai, Taman Perling, Bukit Indah and Iskandar Puteri to the west; Kulai to the north. Most POS support is done remotely, by phone, WhatsApp or remote session. But hardware failures and new-outlet setup happen at your shop. Ask every supplier, us included, what happens when your terminal fails at 12.30pm on a Saturday at your actual address, and get the answer in the quote.

Plenty of owners run more than one kind of business

A café and a retail shop, or a restaurant plus a central kitchen supplying other outlets. Two unrelated systems from two suppliers means two support lines and two sets of numbers that never meet. A supplier who supports both, and links both to the same accounting, saves real admin time at month end.

Compliance is the same as anywhere in Malaysia

LHDN e-Invoice and SST apply in Johor exactly as they do in KL. Whether e-Invoice is mandatory for you depends on your turnover and phase, so confirm your position at hasil.gov.my and read our LHDN e-Invoice guide before you let any supplier tell you what you need.

If you run F&B: what to look for

  • Speed from order to payment. Time it with a stopwatch in the demo, at your real peak sequence.
  • Tables and waiters. A floor plan, joining and changing tables, split bills, and orders sent from a tablet straight to the kitchen.
  • The kitchen. A kitchen display or kitchen printer, so tickets stop getting lost.
  • QR self-ordering. Customers order from their phones, which keeps the peak-hour queue moving.
  • Delivery. GrabFood and foodpanda orders going straight into the POS, instead of a separate tablet someone re-keys from.
  • Offline mode. The till keeps selling when the internet drops, and syncs when it comes back.
  • Menu details. Modifiers, combos and promotions, and labels such as halal on menu items.
  • Owner reports on your phone, for one outlet or all of them together.
  • e-Invoice and SST built in, not bolted on.

Our guides for cafés, bubble tea and dessert shops, mamak and kopitiam, bakeries, seasonal and festive stalls and multi-outlet F&B go deeper on each format.

If you run a retail shop: what to look for

  • Barcode scanning and fast item lookup at the counter.
  • Stock control: stock levels, stock take and purchasing from suppliers.
  • Units of measure (selling by piece, box or carton), plus batch and serial numbers if your products need them.
  • More than one branch: head office sets items and prices, outlet sales flow back automatically, and stock can move between locations.
  • Offline mode, so the counter keeps selling when the line is down.
  • The e-wallets and cards your customers use, such as Touch 'n Go, Boost and MaybankQR.
  • A direct link to your accounting, so sales post to the books without re-typing.

Popcorn POS for JB F&B businesses

This is our own product, so treat this section as the sales pitch and check it in a demo.

Popcorn POS is a Malaysian cloud POS built only for F&B, as four apps that work together: Cashier POS at the counter (ordering, floor plan, payment and reports), the Waiter App for table-side ordering, Kitchen Display for the kitchen, and Edge by Popcorn, the owner's app for sales reports on your phone. It is LHDN MyInvois compliant and SST ready, the cashier keeps working offline and syncs when the internet is back, and multiple outlets run from one dashboard.

Prices are published on our site and billed annually:

PlanPriceWhat it includes

BasicRM1,080/year (RM90/month, billed annually)Everything in Lite, plus QR e-menu, inventory management and attendance tracking
AdvanceRM1,230/year (RM102.50/month, billed annually)Everything in Basic, plus one of: FIUU payment gateway, GrabFood + foodpanda delivery, or in-app membership
UltimateRM1,380/year (RM115/month, billed annually)Everything in Basic, plus all three

Add-ons: an additional cashier is RM300/year, and the Waiter and Kitchen apps are RM120/year each. Hardware is separate. We recommend a touch-screen terminal, a tablet for waiter ordering, a cash drawer and a receipt printer, and you can ask us whether hardware you already own will work. For the full first-year picture, including payment processing fees, see our POS cost guide.

Popcorn also connects directly to Million Accounting, and to AutoCount through an AutoCount plugin, so outlet sales can post to your books without re-typing. Our accounting integration guide explains how each link works.

Million POS and AutoCount POS for JB retail shops

For shops, we carry two retail POS brands: Million POS and AutoCount POS. Both handle barcodes at the counter and post sales into their own accounting and inventory software, so the simplest way to choose is usually this: if you already use Million Accounting, look at Million POS; if you already use AutoCount Accounting, look at AutoCount POS. If you have neither yet, we will compare both against how your shop runs.

AutoCount POS also keeps running when the internet connection is lost, and offers a Price Checker app for the shop floor. Whichever you look at, ask us to show the full flow in the demo: scan, sell, receive stock from a supplier, and see the sale land in the accounts. Both are quoted by setup (edition or modules, number of counters, and any yearly support), so ask us for a written quote.

Why work with a POS consultant instead of a single-product vendor

Most POS companies sell one system. If your business does not fit it, you find out after you have paid. A consultant's job is to match the system to the business, and to keep supporting it after go-live.

  • F&B to retail, one supplier. Popcorn POS for food and drinks, Million POS and AutoCount POS for shops, with one support relationship.
  • Accounting, payroll and e-Invoice too. Rockbell also supplies AutoCount and Million Accounting, Million Payroll, Million HRMS and e-Invoice solutions, so your POS, books and payroll can come from the same team.
  • Experience. Rockbell has been in the market since 1996, with 30+ professional consultants and 40,000+ clients globally, across manufacturing, trading, construction, F&B, retail, services and finance.
  • Grants. Rockbell is a pre-approved solution provider under MDEC's SME Digitalisation Grant in Malaysia, and pre-approved for Singapore's Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG). Grant terms change, so ask us what is open when you apply.
  • Local. Both our Johor Bahru offices are on Jalan Undan 15 in Taman Perling (Popcorn POS at 9B, Rockbell at 7A), and we also have offices in Puchong, Singapore and Jakarta.

When you do not need a consultant: if you only want the simplest till for a single stall and will never need stock control, accounting or a second outlet, almost any simple system will do, including LHDN's free MyInvois e-POS for eligible businesses (see our MyInvois e-POS comparison). We would rather tell you that than sell you more than you need.

A checklist before you choose any POS in JB

Use this on every supplier, including us.

Before the demo

  • Decide whether you are F&B, retail or both, and how many outlets you expect to run in two years.
  • Confirm your e-Invoice position at hasil.gov.my.
  • List the hardware you already own and want to keep.
  • If you are in a mall, find the sales-reporting clause in your tenancy agreement and ask every supplier whether they can meet it.

During the demo

  • Time a full order or sale, from first tap to payment.
  • Switch off the router, ring up a few sales including a split payment, reconnect, and check that everything synced without re-keying.
  • For F&B: send an order from a waiter tablet to the kitchen. For retail: scan a barcode, receive stock from a supplier and do a stock take.
  • Generate an e-invoice and see it validated by LHDN.
  • Open the owner's report on a phone.

Get it in writing

  • Total first-year cost: subscription or licence, any yearly support or update fees, add-ons, hardware, setup and training, and payment processing fees.
  • What happens, and how fast, when hardware fails at your shop.
  • Support hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Contract length, and what happens to your data if you leave.

Other POS brands you will come across in JB

You will likely also look at national brands such as StoreHub, FeedMe, Qashier, Slurp, Loyverse and EasyEat. We have compared each with Popcorn POS using their own published information: StoreHub, FeedMe, Qashier, Slurp, Loyverse and EasyEat. Read them, then put your top two or three through the checklist above.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best POS system in Johor Bahru?

It depends on what you sell. For F&B businesses such as restaurants, cafés, kopitiams and bubble tea shops, start with a food-service POS like Popcorn POS, which handles tables, waiters, the kitchen, QR ordering and delivery orders. For retail shops, start with a retail POS such as Million POS or AutoCount POS, which handle barcodes and stock and post sales into your accounting. Either way, put two or three systems through the same demo checklist before you decide.

Which POS system is recommended for restaurants in JB?

A restaurant needs a floor plan, table-side ordering, a kitchen display or printer, split bills and fast payment. Popcorn POS Basic with the Waiter and Kitchen add-ons covers that, and the Advance or Ultimate plans add GrabFood and foodpanda orders going straight into the POS. Time the full order-to-payment sequence in the demo before you buy.

How much does a POS system cost in Johor Bahru?

Popcorn POS publishes its prices, billed annually: Lite RM350 a year (or RM35 for a single month), Basic RM1,080, Advance RM1,230 and Ultimate RM1,380 a year. Add-ons are RM300 a year for an additional cashier and RM120 a year each for the Waiter and Kitchen apps, and hardware is separate. Million POS and AutoCount POS for retail are quoted by setup, such as edition or modules and number of counters.

Do you have a POS system for retail shops in Johor?

Yes. Rockbell supplies two retail POS brands. Million POS comes with a lifetime licence and posts every sale in real time to Million Accounting & Inventory. AutoCount POS comes in POS Basic and POS Standard editions with optional modules such as Multi-Location and Remote HQ, and posts to AutoCount Accounting. If you already use one of these accounting systems, the matching POS is usually the simplest choice.

Where is your office in Johor Bahru?

The Popcorn POS office is at 9B, Jalan Undan 15, Taman Perling, 81200 Johor Bahru, and the Rockbell office (AutoCount, Million, accounting and payroll) is at 7A, Jalan Undan 15 on the same street. Call 07-241 3172 or WhatsApp +60 13-605 2305. Rockbell also has offices in Puchong, Singapore and Jakarta.

Can one POS handle outlets in both Johor and Singapore?

Popcorn POS supports Malaysia SST, Singapore GST and Indonesia VAT, so outlets on both sides of the Causeway can run on the same system. Rockbell has offices in both Johor Bahru and Singapore, and is pre-approved for Singapore's Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG). Tell us how your Singapore entity is set up and we will advise on the right configuration.

Does the POS keep working if the internet goes down?

Yes. The Popcorn POS cashier keeps working without internet and syncs automatically when the connection is back. AutoCount POS also keeps running when the internet connection is lost. In any demo, switch off the router, ring up a few sales and check that everything synced afterwards.
